Diabetic Association of Bangladesh has been selected for the ‘ASOCIO HealthTech Award’

The Award Committee of The Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) has reviewed the submission made by the ICT Industry Association of Bangladesh comprehensively. They are very impressed with the outstanding contribution of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS) to the development and application of technology to the economies in the Asia-Oceania Region.

National Professor AK Azad Khan and National Professor Mahmud Hasan were felicitated in BIRDEM

President, Bangladesh Diabetic Association National Professor AK Azad Khan and National Council Member Professor Mahmud Hasan have recently been appointed as 'National Professors' in Bangladesh. On this occasion, BIRDEM General Hospital organized a health program at BIRDEM Auditorium.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina become first global ambassador for diabetes

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was announced as the first global ambassador for diabetes at the World Diabetic Federation Congress in Portugal in December. International Diabetes Federation (IDF) President Prof Akhtar Hossain informed Sheikh Hasina when he visited her office at Ganobhaban.

He handed over an invitation letter to Sheikh Hasina to attend the congress. Honorable Prime Minister thanked the governing body of the International Diabetes Federation for unanimously handing her the title. She stressed numerous steps to control diabetes by changing food habits and creating mass awareness. The president of the International Diabetes Federation informed the Prime Minister about activities associated with them. National Prof Dr A K Azad Khan, President of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh was present on the occasion.

GLOBAL AMBASSADOR FOR DIABETES

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has made Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the “Global Ambassador for Diabetes”. On behalf of Prime Minister, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Portugal, Tarik Ahsan received the honorary letter from the newly elected IDF President, professor Akhter Hossain. The event was held at the inaugural session of the International Diabetes Federation 2022 at Lisbon, Portugal on 5 December, 2022.The honorary “Global Ambassador for Diabetes” was conferred on a person in recognition of their significant contribution to upgrading lifestyle of people living with diabetes.

The Prime Minister will discharge the duty of “Global Ambassador for Diabetes” for the next two years as the representative of the diabetic patients for their wellbeing.Sheikh Hasina had earlier received various international prizes including MDG Award, South-South Award, and Vaccine Hero Award.


She earned them particularly for her glorious contribution to making healthcare service reach people’s doorsteps by setting up community clinics across the country, ensuring access to the Covid-19 vaccines of masses free of cost and for overall development of Bangladesh health sector. Bangladesh is currently providing the poor diabetic patients with free insulin through 18,000 community clinics across the country at the initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
