GENERATING SKILLED HUMAN RESOURCES IN DIABETES HEALTH CARE

BADAS is working with the vision to create skilled manpower in both the fields. It also established BIRDEM Academy, Bangladesh University of Health Sciences and Ibrahim Medical College to meet this end.

Formal Education
Under BADAS Facility Ibrahim Medical College offers a 5-year MBBS and BDS course approved by the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council that helps lead to MBBS degree of the University of Dhaka and 1-year internship training at BIRDEM Hospital.
Faridpur Diabetic Association Medical College and North Bengal Medical College also offer a 5-year MBBS Course.
Currently, BIRDEM is running some postgraduate courses under the University of Dhaka such as: DEM, MPhil, MS, MD, PhD etc.
Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) of BADAS had been established at Darus Salam, Mirpur to provide students with education. The organization offers Graduate and Post Graduate courses under the Faculty of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Public Health, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and Faculty of Health Engineering & Technology.
BIRDEM also offers Diploma in Dermatology; Anesthesiology; Endocrinology & Metabolism; Radiology & Imaging; Dermatology & Venereology and Laboratory Medicine.
BIRDEM Nursing College, Faridpur Diabetic Association Nursing Institute, Rajshahi Diabetic Association Nursing Institute and Dinajpur Diabetic Association offer BSc in Nursing Sciences and Midwives. Apart from that NHN is running Diploma Course in Nursing Sciences and Midwives at Meghnaghat.
Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and Research Institute offers Post Graduate Courses (MD & MS) MD in Cardiology and MS Cardiovascular Surgery course.

Informal Education
Distance Learning Program (DLP) is a project of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh to run distance learning course with a view to develop manpower in the field of diabetes throughout the country.
The course was introduced in collaboration with the Open University, UK in 2004.The duration of these courses is 6 months (January-June & July-December Session). At present 35th batch is running through online and offline. So far, almost 19995 students have been passed. Besides, BADAS also offers other short courses.
To provide secondary and tertiary health care services, BADAS has one of the largest human resource bases which includes physicians, nurses/ health educators and laboratory technicians.

Ibrahim Medical College:
The eight academic departments of the College namely the Department of Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine have 84 Full time faculty members. They include 09 Professors, 14 Associate Professors, 14 Assistant Professors, 01 Curator and 44 Lecturers. Academic Faculties of Medicine, Surgery, Gyane & Obst and their several sub-specialties consist of 36 Professors, 45 Associate Professors, 32 Assistant Professors, 02 Resident Physicians, 03 Resident Surgeons and 21 Registrars are the Academic staff of Ibrahim Medical College for clinical teaching and are participating in academic program of the college.
The BDS course is also run by experienced faculties. The Departments of SDM, General and Dental Pharmacology, Oral Anatomy with Physiology, Dental Public Health, Periodontology & Oral Pathology, Prosthodontics, Orthodontics, Conservative Dentistry & Endodontic, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Paediatrics Dentistry have 25 full time teachers. They include 01 Professor, 03 Associate Professor, 06 Assistant Professors and 16 Lecturers. Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry Pathology, Microbio- logy, General Pharmacology, Medicine & Surgery are taught by faculties of respective departments.
