Diabetic Association of Bangladesh observed 66th Foundation Day and Diabetes Awareness Day
66th Foundation Day of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh and Diabetes Awareness Day was observed on 28 February 2022 along with various programs across the country.
To mark the day, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh organized different programs to make the people aware about diabetes. On this occasion, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh organized a road show (standing program on the roadside with placards in hand) from BIRDEM to Gate of the Tennis club.
On this occasion, Posters and leaflets for creation of awareness were published and distributed all over the country. Besides, banners and festoons were displayed during the road show near BIRDEM complex and at different areas of the city to signify the day. Special issues of the association's own publications 'Kanti', health magazine 'Diabetes Newsletter' and special supplements were published in several newspapers.
Free diabetes screening camps were organized by BADAS at BIRDEM campus. Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and Research Institute (ICHRI) organized a special Heart Camp at their hospital complex. On this occasion, National Healthcare Network (NHN), and Bangladesh Institute of Health Sciences (BIHS) also organized free diabetes screening at their different centers in the capital city. A question-answer session between selected diabetic patients and specialized physicians were also arranged at BIRDEM auditorium.
A discussion meeting was organized at BIRDEM Auditorium on the day to mark the occasion, where Nuruzzaman Ahmed MP, Minister in charge of the Ministry of Social Welfare of the Government of Bangladesh graced the occasion as chief guest. He joined the meeting on zoom platform. Prof. AK Azad Khan, President of BADAS presided over the session. The meeting was addressed by Secretary General of the Association Md. Sayef Uddin, Mutasim Billah Farooqui, Governor of Rotary District 3281 and Professor MKI Qayyum Chowdhury, Director General of BIRDEM. Professor Faruqe Pathan presented the key note paper in this regard. The theme of this year was 'Be aware of diabetes control and prevention of corona'.
On this day in 1956, National Professor Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim and initiative of some eminent social workers came together established `Diabetic Association of Bangladesh’ at Segun Bagicha in Dhaka.
