In the context of a country like Bangladesh where Research activities are usually thought to be a luxury, BADAS has taken an unusual approach by incorporating research in its priority list. Activities in this sector ranges from basic to clinical and public health research and as a recognition, its BIRDEM Enterprise, has been designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Research on the Prevention and Control of Diabetes and its Complications. Presently BADAS EPs (particularly BIRDEM and BIHS) are favorite destination of a large number of basic and clinical sciences as well as public health students (from home and abroad) for conducting their post graduate level thesis works.
In FY 2008-09 a number of national International publications and presentations originated from research activities conducted in various departments or laboratories of BADAS EPs.A fairly large network developed with various national/ international institutes/ departments has developed in diverse scientific fields. BIRDEM also houses the Secretariat of the Asian Network of Research on Antidiabetic Plants (ANRAP) which organized a few national/ regional scientific seminar in this year. To disseminate its own re4search finding and also to update knowledge by interacting with the regional/ international counter parts a few seminars/ conferences were organized in this year.
