WORLD Diabetes day was observed in the country as elsewhere across the globe on November 14 with the theme ‘Understand Diabetes, Take Control’.
The Diabetes Association of Bangladesh organized a rally on Manik Mia Avenue a discussion meeting at BIRDEM auditorium and free diabetes test at different place of the city.
The association leaders demanded that the government should take steps for keeping playgrounds for the schools and open space in the housing projects so that the children as well as the adults can have enough open spaces to walk to prevent diabetes.
The health experts at the discussion meeting also said that diabetes has turned pandemic disease.
Planning minister AK Khandaker said the disease could be controlled by creating awareness among the people.
Prof AK Azad Knan President BADAS, said the number of diabetes patients in the country is about six million and which is feared to reach 11 million by 2030 if proper prevention are not taken.
Among others Major General Prof A R Khan (Retd) Vice President BADAS, Mr Md Sayef Uddin Secretary General BADAS, and Prof Nazmun Nahar Additional Director General of BIRDEM were present.
